Rethink Mental Illness Sahayak is consists of five distinct services for the BME Communities across Kent. An information and support service, an Asian language mental health telephone helpline, BME Floating Support service, a Syrian Resettlement Service and an Asian Counselling Service. These services have been at the cutting edge of mental health service provision for ethnic minorities in Kent for over twenty years.

Our Rethink Mental Illness Sahayak Support Service service offers a variety of ways of supporting people, from one-to-one support to group work. People can access the service either through self-referral or by being referred by a health care professional.

About the Role:

You will-

  • Help people using the service to achieve their personal recovery / support plans, as well as signposting them to a range of social, recreational and educational activities.

  • Have the ability to build good working relationships with a wide variety of people.

  • Be responsible for ensuring that all aspects of working with a client are fulfilled and all tasks are delivered within timescales and to agreed quality standards.

About You:

You will-

  • Have good communication ability, both verbally and in writing. You must also be able to speak English and one other language fluently and have an awareness of issues affecting BME(Black Minority Ethnic) communities.

  • Need to have a good understanding of mental illness – gained either through work or personal experience – you will have a good knowledge of the employment needs and difficulties of people who experience mental health problems - you will also be qualified to NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent).

  • Need sound organisational and IT skills, with the ability to keep records both accurately and concisely.

This post may involve some occasional weekend and evening work. Because of the remote location of some of our service users, access to your own efficient form of transport is necessary. Reasonable adjustments will be made in the event of a disability.
